Managing Emotions with ADHD:

Strategies and Tactics

I love talking about emotional management with ADHD because it’s just so darn powerful- and people aren’t talking about it nearly enough. And so, when David Greenwood, the author of Overcoming Distraction, asked me to come on his podcast, Overcoming Distraction- I jumped at the chance! I jumped so quickly, in fact, that I didn’t have time to unpack my recording studio (nee: my closet)— and soon came to regret my lack of soundproofing (listen in for that cringe-worthy moment).

But despite my recording woes, David and I had a great time talking about all things emotions and ADHD. We delved deep into so many topics, including:

  • Why the ADHD brain struggles with emotions

  • What makes an ADHD brain feel flooded by emotions

  • The role of overstimulation in emotional flooding

  • The ADDept emotion meter and how to recognize each level of emotional experience

  • The road that ADHD brains take from feeling fine to feeling flooded by feeling

  • Strategies for managing and soothing those feelings at each stage.

  • How the Meltdown to Mastery program can help adults with ADHD navigate overwhelming feelings each and every day
